  • Price: $$$$
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: historic center
  • Amenities: exquisite restaurant, free breakfast, spa, fitness center, parking, room service, wifi

Hotel Bo is a boutique luxury hotel in San Cristobal de Las Casas and the first design hotel to mark the city. It is located just on the edge of the historic center on Avenida 5 de Mayo, a short 5-minute stroll from the central Plaza de La Paz and the local market at the Santo Domingo Church.

The hotel’s famous Restaurante Lum is one of the best in San Cris (and arguably in all of Chiapas) and features colorful cuisine inspired by the tastes of Mexico and the world. Enjoy the breeze and sun outside on the terrace surrounded by water that gives way to the lovely garden with jungly plants and loungers. All the rooms come equipped with luxury Egyptian cotton sheets, iPod docks, smart TVs, and more. Guests also enjoy room service, airport shuttle transport, and an included à la carte breakfast (up to $160 pesos) each morning at the restaurant.

Hotel Bo’s design was created to represent the four elements – water, fire, earth, and air – which can be seen, felt, and experienced through its unique design with architectural elements and textiles inspired by the colors and cultures of Chiapas.

Everything you could possibly need is available at Hotel Bo, whose reputation simply precedes itself. If you have the budget, you can’t find a better place to stay in San Cristobal.

2. Na Bolom Hotel

  • Price: $+
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: El Cerrillo neighborhood
  • Amenities: free museum tour, lush gardens, breakfast, fireplaces, free wifi

Casa Na Bolom is a truly wonderful and special place to stay in San Cristobal because the hotel is actually housed inside the 16th-century former home (now a museum) of archaeologist Frans Blom and photographer/activist Gertrude Duby Blom. It is located in the charming and quiet Barrio del Cerrillo neighborhood, about a 10-minute walk down Calle Comitan to the Santo Domingo Church, 12-minutes from Guadalupe Church, and 15-minutes to the city center.

All the rooms inside the hotel include colorful regional furnishings and textiles from indigenous communities of Chiapas as well as cozy fireplaces (for chilly evenings), wifi, and an ensuite private bathroom. Free English/American breakfast is included each morning for the duration of your stay which can be enjoyed on the colorful and plant-filled inner courtyard.

Since touring Casa Na Bolom and the museum of the Lacandon culture is one of the top things to do in San Cristobal, you get to tour it for free as a guest here. It’s one of the most budget-friendly hotels as well while retaining both excellent service and comfort.

3. Casa Lum

  • Price: $$ – $$$
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: Real de Guadalupe
  • Amenities: on-site restaurant, wifi, free parking, room service, cable TV

Casa Lum is an eco-chic boutique hotel located on the enchanting pedestrian street of Real de Guadalupe in San Cristobal. It has one of the best locations for exploring the city sights on foot. You are but 5 minutes from the central park and San Cristobal Cathedral and 10 minutes from the beautiful Guadalupe Church.

Although you wouldn’t guess it from outside its turquoise doors on the street, once you walk inside Casa Lum you will be enveloped in a cozy atmosphere with a blend of colonial and contemporary style architecture. All the rooms feature unique names in the indigenous Tzotzil language and feature fair-trade textiles sourced from communities across the Los Altos de Chiapas (the Chiapas Highlands).

Best of all, Casa Lum is dedicated to social, economic, and environmental sustainability. The hotel is built with eco-friendly materials, such as responsibly-sourced wood flooring and ceiling, recycled tiles from demolished buildings. Thanks to their sustainability efforts, they have become a leader in the region and have been awarded the silver EarthCheck certification for the past five years in a row.

4. Sereno Art Hotel

  • Price: $$+
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: historic center
  • Amenities: garden, free parking, wifi, restaurant, fitness center, bar

Sereno Art Hotel is right at the heart of the historic center on Avenida 16 de Septiembre. You are within minutes from the Plaza de la Paz and sprawling Parque Los Arcos (the central park), amazing cafes and restaurants, and the pedestrian street of Real de Guadalupe.

As you can guess by the name, the rooms inside Sereno Art Hotel are decorated with swanky textures, colors, and fixtures that breathe an artistic vibe into the place. While everything is top-notch, the only complaint from guests is that the bedroom doors aren’t very sound-proof so you can hear music playing from the inner courtyard as well as any kitchen preparations by the staff.

If you aren’t too noise sensitive and love a hotel that gives off a good vibe, then make sure to consider Sereno for your stay in San Cristobal.

5. Casa de Gandhi

  • Price: $ – $$
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: centro neighborhood
  • Amenities: free breakfast, restaurant, garden, TVs, space heaters, parking, wifi

Hotel Casa de Gandhi has one of my favorite exteriors/interiors of all the hotels in San Cristobal de Las Casas. Each time I pass it, I can’t help but compliment it! It is located in a wonderful location on Calle Flavio A. Paniagua, just on the edge of the historic center and mid-way to Na Bolom, the market, Amber Museum, and the Guadalupe Church.

The included breakfast is always on-point as well as the comfort of the beds and quietness of the hotel. You also enjoy free private parking, wifi, TVs in the rooms, and the convenience of their on-site Restaurant Don Abraham. (There’s also our favorite brunch garden cafe right next door called Sarajevo – check it out!)

But perhaps the best feature of Casa de Gandhi is in fact the endearing family that owns and operates the hotel. What’s certain is that they will go out of their way to make you feel like you’re home in San Cristobal.

6. Hotel Posada Primavera

© Hotel Posada Primavera
  • Price: $+
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: historic center
  • Amenities: garden, free wifi, family rooms, flat-screen TVs, sun terrace

Hotel Posada Primavera is one of the popular family hotels in San Cristobal de Las Casas. If you want to have a good night’s sleep in an adorable, brightly-colored hotel, then this is it! Posada Primavera is located right in the heart of the city on 16 de Septiembre street, placing you within walking distance to all the major attractions.

The rooms and hotel have a charming, rustic touch: wooden furniture, subdued hues, and a decorative cottage-like garden with loungers as if you were sunbathing out in the countryside. The only complaint from guests is that the bathrooms don’t receive much ventilation as there are no windows.

If you’re wanting to stay in cheap hotels but that come equipped with all the creature comforts one needs, then Posada offers an unbeatable value/price (and it’s right in the center of beautiful San Cris).

Reserve your room at Posada Primavera on Booking.com

7. Casa del Alma Hotel Boutique & Spa

Casa del Alma is a boutique hotel and spa offering a beautiful place to stay in San Cristobal. It is centrally located in the historic center, just a 10-minute walk away from the Mudejar-style Arco del Carmen and a stone’s throw away from Santo Domingo Church and Market.

Light and airy, the atmosphere at Casa del Alma invites you in from the busy streets of San Cristobal and pampers you with its on-site restaurant, full-service spa, bar, and more. Guests enjoy a complimentary exquisite breakfast à la carte as well as free private parking.

A highlight of Casa del Alma is the benefit of their on-site restaurant, El Secreto, which features incredible dishes and drinks from the region (get the salmon!).

8. Guayaba Inn Boutique Hotel

© Guayaba Inn
  • Price: $$+
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: El Cerrillo neighborhood
  • Amenities: botanical garden, free wifi, organized excursions, sauna, breakfast

Guayaba Inn is an adorable boutique hotel housed inside a colorful, colonial building located on a perpendicular street beside the Na Bolom Museum in the traditional El Cerrillo neighborhood. It is easily within 10-15 minutes walking distance to all the top attractions in San Cristobal de Las Casas.

Guests love the Guayaba Inn for its warm and friendly staff and tropical botanical garden filled with orchards and bromeliads that often get greeted by sweet little hummingbirds. Inside the colonial-style rooms, you will find a large comfy bed, flat screen TV, and a spacious bathroom (a few rooms even have copper bathtubs).

What’s more, a tasty and complete breakfast is included each morning. You can also book day trips and tours directly through the hotel staff at a good price. If you are looking for an enchanting and quiet place to stay with your partner or family, then look no further than the charming Guayaba Inn.

9. La Abuelita Hostal

  • Price: $
  • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
  • Location: historic center / santa lucia neighborhood
  • Amenities: dorms/family rooms, kitchen, living room, rooftop terrace, wifi

La Abuelita Hostal is one of the top-rated hostels in San Cristobal de Las Casas. It has hundreds of stellar reviews all with happy travelers. It is located right on the outskirts of the historic center, nearby San Cristabalito Church, Plaza de La Paz, and the Amber Museum, so you won’t get FOMO but can still get a good night’s sleep!

There are both shared dorm rooms and private family rooms at La Abuelita. The modern design and cleanliness of the rooms and facilities seriously make this place compete against even the 4-5 star hotels in San Cris.

In addition to its leisure rooms, complimentary water/coffee/tea, and rooftop terrace, you also get to enjoy a fully-equipped and stocked kitchen so you can save from spending money eating out and buy your groceries locally to cook (especially for long stays).

If you are a backpacker on a budget then you won’t find a better place to stay in San Cristobal considering the location, cleanliness, and excellent attention from the staff than at La Abuelita!

Casa Cafeóloga (the Coffeeologist House) is an adorable boutique hotel housed inside a colonial-style building right in the heart of Real de Guadalupe, the cobbled pedestrian street of San Cristobal. Blink and you’ll miss it because it’s cozily tucked away off the street behind the Cafeologia coffeehouse.

The rooms inside Casa Cafeóloga are bright, airy, and clean with a pop of color. Your bedroom includes lovely large beds and linens with a complimentary coffeemaker. The view gives way into the cozy inner courtyard with fairy lights and a large shady tree. Simple yet beautiful, Casa Cafeólogo is a hotel full of style and value. A must stay when wanting somewhere down-to-earth and quiet but in close proximity to everything.

When you already feel nostalgic for leaving a plac When you already feel nostalgic for leaving a place you’ve only just arrived in... Do you know the feeling I’m talking about??

We are here in Goa, India 🇮🇳 for an amazing digital nomad retreat hosted by @nurall_co and are feeling so pumped and grateful to be here! ✨

We’ve already spent our first few hours diving into butter paneer masala and chai at the lovely @caferasagoa and wandering the historic Latin Quarter in awe of its Portuguese tiles and little hole-in-the-wall tapas bars. And it’s safe to say we’re hooked. 🤩

Can’t wait to uncover even more treasures that Panjim and Goa hold 🫶

... And so begins Day 1/40 of my trip through India, Taiwan, and Japan! Follow along for the journey 🤗

I can’t believe I’m posting this from the othe I can’t believe I’m posting this from the other side of this 3-day journey to get my visa processed and reunite with Paul in India!!

That first day I wallowed in what Jen Sincero coins as “self-suckery” — I beat myself up, looked at only the negative side, and genuinely felt like I deserved what was “happening to me” because it was my mistake for having uploaded the pdf of my old passport and not my new one (yes, I really did that) — a simple error that resulted in ridiculous e-visa delays for which I could do nothing about, 3 days of transiting between airports, lots of tears, and an out-of-pocket cost of $850 for two flight changes + $$ for airport junk food (which pretty much costs the same as a meal in a Michelin star restaurant) + $150 in Uber rides and hotel fees, and countless hours of lost sleep. My real mistake, in hindsight, was rushing; not going slow, as I always preach. I rushed what I was doing and got caught in the senseless consequences.

Little did I know then, but Day 1 was just the beginning of this near-72-hour journey to India and back to Paul. What is certain is that I DID NOT expect our big trip back to Asia to start like this.

But I’m so, so glad it did.

Is Mexico a good digital nomad destination?? Here Is Mexico a good digital nomad destination??

Here’s why Mexico is a GREAT destination for remote workers and travelers:

🌮 Amazingggg food — Literally the best! I just came back from eating Baja fish tacos and they cost just $1.50 each, like whatttt

🇲🇽 Culture / people — I find Mexicans to be some of the kindest and friendliest people on Earth. If there is a reason I keep coming back to Mexico it is because I have felt, and do feel, at home here.

🌿 Outdoors / nature / adventure — Mexico has it ALL and I mean it ALL (islands, beaches, mountains, rainforests, deserts, volcanoes, amazing marine life + wildlife, allll types of activities, etc)

💻 WiFi — Not the best depending on where you go, but way more than enough for what I use it for! Lots of cafes + coworking spaces nowadays too

🥂 Community — There is a growing community of nomads and it’s a pretty diverse mix!

💰 Cost of living — It’s more affordable to live, which is great for beginner nomads who are still building their biz

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to slow travel/live as a digital nomad in Mexico since 2018 — Baja California Sur marks our 5th state out of the 32 Mexican states (+ Nayarit, Quintana Roo, Chiapas, Oaxaca).

This country gives and gives, so let’s give back as guests! Please visit Mexico as a digital nomad (or tourist in general) responsibly and mindfully. Stay local, eat local, drink local, shop local, + support local. Leave No Trace and be conscious of your choices and impact!

What do you pack first?! 🎒🤔 As a homebase- What do you pack first?! 🎒🤔

As a homebase-less nomad, I move countries with only these two backpacks, so I’m not worried about fitting all I need for my 40-day trot through Asia! 🌏

But I would LOVE your travel tips and recs, in particular for Taiwan and Japan (I’ll be solo in 🇯🇵)!!! Send me all your fav street foodie suggestions, secret gardens, cute towns, onsens, temples — all of it! 🏯

I’m so excited to feel EXCITED about going somewhere I’ve never been before. I haven’t been to India since 2018 and I’ve never been to Taiwan or Japan!
