Paratha is originally from India but is eaten here in Nepal as well. You can have plain paratha, or have it stuffed with ingredients like potatoes, onions, and more. After having hot ‘n fresh paratha straight from the griddle, the frozen pre-made ones don’t really do them justice. So try this handmade, easy recipe for cooking (potato) paratha below!
Ingredients: What you’ll need
Serves 2-3 | Preparation time 20-25 minutes | Cooking time 10-15 minutes
- Boiled potatoes 200 grams
- Chopped onions 3 tbsp
- Green coriander 2 tbsp
- Butter 1 tbsp
- Ginger/garlic paste 1 tbsp
- Cumin powder 1/2 tsp
- Red chili powder as required
- Wheat flour (ata) as required
- Garam masala to taste
- Salt to taste

Follow these ten easy steps in order to make a hearty potato-stuffed tasty flatbread.
- Peel the boiled potatoes and grate them into a large bowl
- Mix the grated potatoes with the above ingredients in one container (chopped onion, coriander leaves, ginger/garlic paste, cumin powder, red chili powder, garam masala, salt)
- Now you’ll need to make your dough with the wheat flour (wheat flour + water)
- Roll out your kneaded dough in a circle on a flour-dusted board (preferably wood/bamboo)
- Place above mixture into the center of the rolled out dough
- Bring all the edges together in the middle
- Roll out the dough evenly into a circular disc once more
- Add butter to medium-heated pan and place round aloo paratha
- Cook on both sides, flipping often
